When a Chao shines, it's "Cheering Time". If a Chao falls asleep after sleeping it's easy to wake it up with a sweet, although during a race you can't wake a Chao manually. Use the A, B, X and Y Buttons to cheer for your Chao before its sparkle fades. This will cause it to sprint.
